Be A Hero. Be an Organ Donor
Be A Hero. Be an Organ Donor Yasmin Mullings. Baby Ryley. Wolfgang Muller. Ivy Ashworth-Crees. What do they have in common? Their lives were saved by a hero: an organ donor. Someone they had never met, but who cared enough about other people to donate their own organs upon their death. Are you a registered organ donor? Why not? According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, in August 2017 116,000 people needed an organ donation in the US alone. Each day, 20 people die while waiting for a transplant that never comes. And while 95% of US adults support organ donation, only 54% are registered. Even Spain, known as a European success story, has only 40 donors registered per million people. Wherever you are, register now and make a difference. Why Become an Organ Donor? Healthy organs from one person can save 8 lives. How? One heart + 2 lungs + 1 liver + 1 pancreas + 2 kidneys + 1 intestine = 8 lives saved. And that doesnât count the lives improved by donated corneas, skin, bone marrow, and more. From the bigger view of society, donating saves money as well as lives. The average cost of a kidney transplant and the medications required afterwards is far less than the cost of ongoing dialysis. And just imagine the difference in that transplant recipients quality of life! Who can donate? Almost anyone can be an organ donor. The oldest donor in the US on record was 93 years old! Male or female, any age, any nationalityâ¦.anyone can donate. Even people with chronic conditions can probably donate some of their organs. The transplant team will decide. And that old myth that homosexuals canât be organ donors? Itâs just that, a myth. All thatâs needed is healthy organs and the willingness to register. Speaking of which⦠How do I become an organ donor? Registering as an organ donor is easy. In many European countries, people must actively choose not to be an organ donor. In others, like the US and UK, you have to opt in. Itâs easy. In the US, visit www.organdonor.gov. It all takes about 10 minutes. You can also register at your local Department of Motor Vehicles, and many states list your organ donor status on your driverâs license. In the UK, register via the NHS. Tell your friends and family about your choice. Include the information in your advanced medical directive (âliving willâ). Leave instructions for the person you designate as your health care decision maker, so they can honor your wishes. Be a Hero Only 3 people in 1000 die in a way that allows organ collection. The waiting list for transplants grows faster than the number of available donors every day. Sign up and become a life saver now! Images via https://organdonor.gov/

How Can You Measure Your Employer Brand Success
How Can You Measure Your Employer Brand Success Measuring employer brand has notoriously been tricky. You ask employer brand managers all around the world how they do it, and everyone has a different answer. So weve collated 10 ways to measure your employer brand from 10 employer branding masters. Each with own KPIs, metrics and solutions. Measuring your employer brand will help you monitor your reputation as an employer and determine if your employer brand resonates with your target audience. Jennifer Johnston We measure the success of our employer brand in terms of both attraction and retention. When our recruiters do reachouts, have we built enough awareness around our reputation as a best place to work that cold prospects are at least a little curious and take our call? When candidates go to Glassdoor, does what they read make them more, or less, likely to accept our offer? When recruiters from other companies call our employees, is our brand magnetic enough to help us hold on to our people? We also look at social shares, awards won, and ratings on reviews sites Jennifer Johnston, Senior Director of Global Employer Branding, Salesforce Estela Vazquez Perez I have documented KPIs that are priority to the business, people and brand strategies. This framework allows me to be flexible to select the outcome and put my focus on the chosen targets. The KPIs in the employer brand scorecard also have dimensions according to the team leading the conversation, for instance, recruitment seeks transactions and conversions, communications seeks more approval from the social, economic and political system, brand seeks memory imprints, hr wants engagement. You need to craft a combination that will satisfy the team. There is no one fits all scorecard. Although some measures are a must every time, 50% will be relative to the situation. Estela Vazquez Perez, Global Employment Brand Director, Royal Bank of Canada Carmen Collins I see a lot of people ask âwhat is the one way to measure employer branding?â Or âwhat is the one KPI that you use to show the impact of this benefit program?â If thatâs your approach, youâre asking the wrong questions. First, start with your goals. Without clear goals, youâll never be able to measure success. If your goal is to retain employees by adding a benefit package, your measure of success would be employee retention and feedback on that package. If your goal is to drive awareness, thereâs a metric for that. If your goal is to get clicks to job openings, thereâs a metric to that. Set clear goals and measure against them. Carmen Collins, Social Media Talent Brand Lead, Cisco Jörgen Sundberg What are the metrics that matter to the business? Those are the ones you want to focus on for your employer brand measurement. Try to keep them to no more than three main ones, or else it gets confusing. Youâll want to start with establishing a baseline, it doesnât really matter what the result is. What matters is the brandâs trajectory over time. We have developed the Employer Brand Index to help companies measure their reputation as employers over time, sometimes a 3rd party evaluation can have more gravitas than one made in-house. Jörgen Sundberg, Employer Brand Consultant CEO, Link Humans Hannah Fleishman Most companies I talk to about employer branding do one of two things: They measure everything, or they measure nothing. Tracking every email click-through-rate, web page view, and application conversion rate is a good idea in theory, but what does that actually tell you about the impact of your efforts? Pick metrics that you know you can have an impact on, but that also move the needle on your overall recruitment goals. For example, increasing visits to your jobs website month-over-month might be a good goal because your employer branding efforts will drive traffic to your site, while that traffic can lead to an increase in job applications over time. Hannah Fleishman, Inbound Recruiting Manager, HubSpot Ton Rodenburg There are direct and indirect results to measure. Being an evangelist myself of branding inside out, I see âengagementâ as the ultimate measurement. A spirited team is the source and success factor to spreading the virus and ensures authentic and real great experiences. From this engagement you can measure âperformanceâ and âadvocacyâ in all distinct KPIâs. These are the main results from having an engaged workforce; they perform better, and are enthusiastic to communicate about their work and club. And of course, in our daily reality, of employer branding being in the recruitment or HR department (alas), the key success indicators are about recruitment KPIâs; quality of hire its most significant (and hard to measure), and other more tactical indicators such as cost of hire, time to hire, cost of empty seat, open applicants, number of quality applicants, satisfaction with hiring managers, a.o. Ton Rodenburg, Employer Branding Strategy Director, ARA M/V Human Resource Communications Audra Knight This is tough because it really depends on your team goals and company business goals. If you open a new office in a new country, brand awareness in that area can be a success. Quality hires is always ideal with your recruitment marketing efforts but getting people in the top of the funnel is important too! I would start by asking what success looks like to your boss and planning your recruitment marketing around that. Audra Knight, Recruitment Operations Manager, Tenable Sarang Brahme I think it really depends on what the objective of your employer brand programme is. If itâs only about hiring more people then traffic, number of applications and diversity can be a good measure. However, if itâs about hiring, engagement and retention then we need to look at a broader set of measurements like the share of voice of your employees on social channels, social media engagement / talent brand scores, impact on hiring and retention, review site rankings. Some companies also work with consultants to build a dedicated review / survey by employees and external talent community to measure the brand impact. Sarang Brahme, Global Social Recruiting Talent Brand Manager, Capgemini Shaunda Zilich Reach, engagement, and action are the simple ones to measure. I think we have greater things to measure in sentiment analysis but also beyond that in behavior analysis of those that promote our brand (brand ambassadors â" not just those we hire or even just employees). This measurement will show deeper areas of strengths and weaknesses. Shaunda Zilich, Global Employment Brand Leader, GE Jaclyn Campbell Specifically with LinkedIn, I track monthly analytics very closely. I look at engagement, growth rates, and clicks through to job postings and our careers page. Google Analytics is also very helpful to measure the traffic on our careers page. I regularly monitor Glassdoor to track our employer and CEO ratings, as well as pageviews. Lastly, I track time to hire, source of hire, candidate satisfaction scores, and retention rates. To tell the best story, I recommend tying together the data from multiple sources that paints the overall picture of impact. Jaclyn Campbell, Employer Brand Consultant, Optus

How to Get Started in a Career as a Property Investor CareerMetis.com
How to Get Started in a Career as a Property Investorâ" CareerMetis.com Amassed the right amount of capital, and want to invest some of your hard-earned money into the property market?Particularly in the UK at the moment, the buy to let property market is thriving, but you need to make sure that youâre taking the right steps to both protect your investment and make as much money as possible along the way.evalFor beginners to the seasoned investors, here are some quick tips that you might find useful in kickstarting your real estate careeras a property investor.Create a plan of action for investment evalThere are multiple different avenues that you can choose to go down when youâre investing in property, so, you first need to come up with some simple goals and plans that you can then base your investments and strategies around.Another critical part of this process should also be in deciding how long you want to invest in, in relation to the amount of money that youâre putting in and the amount of money that you want to make as a final goal. Thinking about these sorts of things will help you to make a more clear-cut decision on the type of property that you want to go for.As an example, if youâre an investor that wants to build a long-term portfolio up over time, in preparation for retirement, you might decide to invest in property in areas that are projected to increase healthily in value over time or have significant demand. This will help to ensure that you garner a consistent, steadily growing revenue stream over time. You may also decide to invest more capital into a long-term project if you can afford it.Top tip â" Set on a certain area but arenât sure that you can spare the cash funds upfront? You might decide to look into getting a buy to let mortgage if youâre an existing homeowner. Many investment companies provide rental income calculators so that you figure out how much youâd need to satisfy mortgage lenders, and whether itâs a viable option. If youâre set on the property but still arenât sure of the b est way to go about it financially, seek advice from a professional on the best course of action to take, and what might be the road for you personally based on your area and strengths.Decide on the type of property that you want to invest in evalWhether itâs a standard residential property, a commercial office building, a retirement home, hotel or student accommodation, there is a range of different properties available on the market, in a variety of different shapes and sizes. As expected, each has itsbenefits, some are more popular in certain areas than others, and each attracts a mixed demographic which can shift in demand.Beginners wanting to make a consistent secondary income from their investment often tend to lean towards student property investment as their first choice in purchasing property, and there are a few reasons for this. Not only is it one of the best-performing asset classes for rental yields Increasing student demand Think about the area that youâre investing in, and weigh up whether it has enough longevity to be worthwhile for long-term investment. Sometimes even if there are great initial incentives to buying a property in an area, its long term prospects will leave you with something that canât make you money as youâd hoped.Finding the right balance between high rental yields and capital appreciation potential is the key, even if itâs easier said than done. 4) The risk involvedNot to finish on a negative, but itâs always important to keep in mind the risks involved with investing generally.Property as an asset class is a lot less volatile than other methods, and it feels more secure having a physical asset, but nevertheless, the market can change and shift.Again, this relates to making sure you select the correct area, as ones with stable levels of regeneration and growth are likely to be more stable and predictable.eval

What Are We Learning from the Sarah Palin Phenomenon - Kathy Caprino
What Are We Learning from the Sarah Palin Phenomenon Dear Friends: Lately Ive had some very charged and stimulating discussions with my female friends about Sarah Palins national launch. Weve been exploring what the media frenzy around Ms. Palin has uncovered in usabout ourselves, our views about women vs. men, and our biases when it comes to supporting women as world leaders. Several of my colleagues whom I admire and consider brilliant have spoken to me about their conflicted feelings and beliefs about Palin and her fit for high political office. Its challenged many of us (even we feminists) to scrutinize our feelings about women vs. men, priorities, values, putting the country first over the health of your family/baby, etc. My friend and I were recently discussing our views about a pregnant Palins waiting 20 hours after her water broke so that she could make her political speech then fly home. We were asking ourselves, Do we want women to put the country first, even over the life of their newborns? Do we desire the advancement of women so deeply that well vote for a woman, even when we radically disagree with her views? And finally, While many of us are ready individually, are we as a country ready to embrace what it means to have a woman as a top leader? If not, will this move us forward? These are very challenging questions that defy easy or black-and-white answers. Id love to hear your views. Do you believe that women in high political office should put the country first, over their own family and children? If you answer Yes, will you be accepting of it, and comfortable watching it happen? And finally, do you believe that its sexist or appropriate to ask a woman who is running for office a different set of questions (about her family as priority, how will she handle raising the children, etc.) than we would ask a male candidate? In my work and new book, Breakdown, Breakthrough, Im urging women to choose for themselves what feels right, to find values that they can honor openly, to determine for themselves what life approaches and directions to take. Im also suggesting that we get out of the way of others and not judge them for the choices they make. Ultimately, is that asking too much for where we are today? (You can guess how Id answer that, Im sure!). Thank you for sharing your views here. Your openness helps others examine their beliefs, and move forward. Wishing you many happy breakthroughs, Kathy
